Sustainable curtains: discover eco-friendly materials

See the beautiful linen curtains in my study? Not only are they stylish, but they are also durable curtains!

Wondering how window coverings can be sustainable? Don’t worry, I’m going to explain it to you! In this blog, I focus specifically on durable curtains, as I have found that many have difficulty finding suitable window coverings. In addition, there is much uncertainty about which options are actually sustainable. Explore with me the possibilities for furnishings that are not only stylish, but also sustainable!

Longevity: enjoy your curtains longer with smart choices

Sustainability goes beyond just recyclable materials; it includes longevity. The quality of the fabric and your personal taste play a big role in the longevity of window coverings.

For example, are you considering curtains with an eye-catching print? Then consider whether you will still like this style 5 years from now. Personally, I would quickly tire of such a striking design. Since window decorations are quite an investment, I recommend choosing plain curtains and adding playfulness with accessories such as decorative pillows.

Organic cotton: a sustainable choice

It is often thought that cotton is automatically sustainable because it comes from the cotton plant. Unfortunately, this is not entirely true. The cotton plant requires an enormous amount of water and chemicals to ensure a good harvest.

Fortunately, organic cotton offers an eco-friendly alternative. No harmful chemicals are used in its production, leaving no pollutants in the soil. If you prefer cotton curtains, make a sustainable choice and go for organic cotton curtains. Discover eco-friendly options for stylish and responsible window coverings.

Linen: durable and strong

One of my favorite fabrics is undoubtedly linen. Not only do I love wearing clothes made from 100% linen in the summer, but curtains made from this beautiful fabric are also available. Linen is made from the flax plant and requires minimal fertilizer or chemicals to grow. Moreover, the flax plant uses much less water than the cotton plant, making linen curtains significantly more durable than their cotton counterparts.

An added advantage of linen is its extraordinary sturdiness, making these curtains last for years. For those who strive for durability and want to enjoy their curtains for a long time, linen is highly recommended!

Tip: Be careful not to wash linen curtains in the washing machine. Being a natural product, they shrink in the washing machine. Fortunately, they can be safely cleaned at the dry cleaners through dry cleaning.

Recycled curtains: a green choice for your interiors

Another option to consider when choosing sustainable window coverings are recycled curtains. These curtains are made from recycled materials, giving them a second life while reducing the carbon footprint. Using recycled fabrics helps reduce waste and promote a circular economy.

Moreover, recycled curtains often offer unique designs and textures, allowing you to add an exclusive look to your interior. Whether you’re looking for a contemporary style or a more vintage look, recycled curtains offer several options for an environmentally conscious interior.

Marketplace: cheap option for durable curtains

If you’ve been dying to get those curtains with that cute print but end up getting tired of them, don’t throw them away! Consider Marketplace as an environmentally friendly alternative. There are countless people looking for used curtains, which is not only positive for the environment but can also save you some extra money.

The importance of durable curtains in your interior

Are you convinced of the benefits of durable curtains? As a lover of high-quality fabrics, I recommend the BM Fabrics brand, available at various specialty stores. But you can also purchase sustainable curtains even on a limited budget. Ikea, for example, offers affordable 100% linen curtains. Find out how to customize these curtains in my Instagram Reel.
